The SBA’s
8(a) Mentor-Protégé Program was designed to enhance the capability of an
8(a) participant to compete more successfully for federal government
contracts by encouraging the Mentor firm to provide its Protégé with
technical and management assistance, the ability to form joint venture
arrangements to better compete for government contracts, and financial
assistance. WTA and Thomas Land Clearing Company (TLC), an 8(a) Program
Graduate, have filed an application for entrance into the SBA
Mentor-Protégé Program and anticipate approval of the filing in late
May, 2004.
Our two
firm’s application for the Program demonstrate that TLC enjoys favorable
financial health, was a significant federal contractor in good standing,
and was fully capable of providing valuable support to WTA through
lessons learned from TLC’s own practical experience gained in government
contracting.
The
Agreement leverages the extensive history and capabilities of TLC to the
benefit of the 8(a) protégé and its customers. Mr. Walter Thomas was a
senior manager at TLC from 1997 through 2003. He served TLC in various
roles, including Quality Programs Officer and Project Manager. Mr.
Thomas is thoroughly familiar with the TLC project management, health
and safety, quality control, and accounting infrastructure, and indeed
helped develop most of TLC’s project management programs, policies and
standard operating procedures. Because of his strong connection to TLC
and experience on virtually all of TLC’s federal projects, the
experience and qualifications of TLC accrue to WTA.

Thomas Land
Clearing Co. (TLC) an 8(a) graduate who mentors Walter Thomas &
Associates (WTA), an 8(a) company has teamed up in order to use the
resources, economic strength and vast demolition experience acquired
over the past 10 years to better serve Federal Agencies.
WTA is a
newly certified 8(a) contractor in the demolition and land clearing
field, however, its owner Mr. Walter Thomas Jr. served as a Senior
Project Manager for TLC on demolition projects for the U.S. Navy, U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Air Force
and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Walter
Thomas Jr. headed Thomas Land Clearing Company’s Hawaii office in Maui
for 3 years; this is not a new relationship, it is a growing one. We ask
